Parliament approved electronic sick notes starting January 1st, 2020
On May 10th, 2019 the Czech Parliament passed the amendment proposing a change of the electronic sick note which includes additional requirements made by doctors and employers. Originally, the system was to be commenced in two stages but the Czech Social Security Administration (CSSA) decided to launch it all together on January 1st, 2020.
This amendment lays down rules for so called proactive notifications which give employers the right to ask the CSSA for automatic notifications if an employee becomes temporarily unfit for work.
The electronic sick note should decrease the obligation of employers towards social security administration and, at the same time, allow for ongoing monitoring and verification about the length of the time period during which an employee of theirs is unfit for work.
Regarding the amendment, there was also a discussion about the abolishment of the so called waiting period (the first three days of temporary inability to work) being postponed again. The waiting period will, however, be abolished as planned on July 1st, 2019. More about the topic of the waiting period can be found here.
